DMU: Debre Markos University Choke watershed research and community development project directorate offers training on improved technologies for farmers at 13 centers of excellences. In order to provide new and improved farming technologies, training was conducted for farmers from centers of excellence in DebreMarkos University on April 24/2018.

Assistant Professor Genet Degu, Debre Markos University Research and Community Service Vice President, states that the directorate is currently working strongly on choke watersheds to rescuing the eco-system and ultimately offer alternative technologies to scale up the communities economic development.

In doing so, Debre Markos University and Addis Ababa University are working jointly to improve the societal life and to maximize the communities economically without hurting the biodiversity of Choke. Finally, Genet Degu recommends that the trainees to take part in session have to be active in the training and able to adopt the technology easily and expand to the other farmers.

Dr. MeleseTemesgen, Manager and researcher of Ibar Engineering in Addis Ababa, trains three fundamental farming tools that are recently adopted to be practiced: Burken plough, IbarBBm and raw seeding machine.

Burken plough is aimed at decreasing farmers’ exhaustiveness, soil degradation and removal of water and flood, plough repetition and increase productivity. Whereas, IbarBBm, which is also called the 2nd generation farming tool is basically serves either in arid or moisturized areas. The last one is raw seeding machine, which replaces approximately of ten farmers energy at a time.

Generally, these three technologies are highly advantageous for farmers to increase productivity, to decrease farmers’ wastage of time and energy. The trainees also committed to hurriedly accept the technologies for themselves and others that lately implement without hesitation.
