Debre Markos University holds public Lecture on the History of Ethiopian Medical Education

DMU:  Debre Markos University Project Development Directorate in collaboration with Mension for Mension Non-Governmental Organization  conduct an awareness creation public lecture to Debre Markos University Instructors, workers and students about  the history of Medical Education in Ethiopia.

Dr. Enawgaw Mehari, Founder of Mension for Mension Organization says that the history of Ethiopian Medical Education has to be written by its scholars. Medication started since1520 during the Regime of Emperor Libne Dengel and Workineh Eshetie was the first health professional in the country. Ethiopians started Medication in the abroad during the régime of Emperor Libne Dengel and the first Medical Education school was established since 1330. The first Ministry of Health Ministry was Billata Zewudie Belayneh and Dr. Melaku Beyan was the first Medical Doctors during the Regime of Emperor Tewodros, Dr. Enawagaw, explained. Furthermore, vaccination started in the Regime of Yohannes and it was developed during Emperor Menilik.  The first Medical Education trainees were graduated since 1968.

Finally, Dr. Enawgaw explains about the situation of the current Ethiopian Medical Education. Though there are qualified doctors in the profession lack of medical equipment are the problems of the sector. Therefore, all stakeholders should work in collaboration to solve the problem, Dr. Enawgaw remarked,

The director of Debre Markos University Project Development and Collaboration Directorate Mr.Endeshaw Kassa says that such kind of training is crucial to share experience and general understanding, so it will continue by inviting outstanding scholars in different disciplines.
