Debre Markos University Presents Mega Project proposal

DMU: Debre Markos University research and community service directorate has conducted a presentation of Mega project proposal in the presence of top management leaders, teachers and invited guests.

The representative of Debre Markos University Research and Community Service Vice President Dr. Mihret Alemayehu explained that Choke Watershed is one of the hotspot biodiversity areas in the world that encompasses vast biodiversity and it is also a source of many rivers and streams. Although the ecosystem is rich in biodiversity currently the eco system is in a threat.

Hence, DMU is conducting different researches to solve risks and problems by categorizing the issue in four thematic areas. The thematic areas are natural resource conservation, bio diversity and environmental conservation, Irrigation and energy development and eco-tourism groups. On the presentation two mega projects were presented in line with the four thematic areas identified by the directorate.

The vice president for Administration and Student Affairs of DMUDr. Tafere Melaku on his side states Choke is the main focus area of Debre Markos University. Due to this, the university supports researchers to conduct problem solving studies that bring change in the area. He also indicates that the project will implement after the ideas, suggestions and comments will be incorporated in the proposal.

Dr. Arega Mulu, Debre Markos University hydraulic department instructor on his turn, presents his proposal stated that the proposal are being done, assessment and pilot data are also taken from 16 woredas which are found in Choke watershed areas. Finally, participants gave their genuine constructive ideas and they suggest implementing the project soon to solve the challenge faced on Choke watershed.
