Debre Markos University realizes farmers’ beneficiary in Wheat Seed Multiplication

DMU:-Selected wheat seed delivery to organized selected seed producer farmers is an activity of  Debre Markos University Research and Community Service division  among activities done on the farmer`s plot of farming land.

 Selected wheat seed production is being practiced in a clustered manner on Debre Elias and BasoLibenWoredas.

DMU works aggressively in distributing productive and selected wheat seed to improve the lives of Guay and TijaGoterkebele, Elias woreda farmers organized in cluster.

Dr, MihretAlemayehu, DMU Community Service Directorate Director, says that the university supports through selection of productive species of seeds research, gives continuous trainings and makes participatory selection of seeds with farmers.

Farmers become beneficiaries in the production programme of selected Wheat seeds with a close support of the university in minimizing cost of selected wheat seed that access from Ethiopian Seed Enterprise and others too, Dr. Mihret added.

About 1600 farmers are organized in clusters in the seed multiplication activity that assures their benefit for the last three years.

Mr, MeketeFerede, Laqe Markos kebele wheat seed multiplication association chairperson reminds that the name TijaGoter changed to Laqe Markos for the recall the role of DMU in shifting the hand to mouth production of Wheat to better life by increasing their income in the product and productivity of wheat.

During the field visit program, the president of DMU Dr. Tafere Melaku says that the university currently welcomes all relevant projects that substantially change the livelihood of the farmers as its social responsibility.

Agich, Qeqeba and Birds King are among selected wheat seed species that farmers are producing.

Farmers who share ideas to DMU corporate communication say that those farmers participated in seed multiplication the yield is increased to 50 quintals per hectare.
