DMU Brings Extensive Changes in Climate Smart Village Innovative Platforms

DMU:-Research and community service activities under taking on 13 Debre Markos University climate smart villages innovative platform have shown meaningful changes on the lives of the farmers.

Climate smart villages enable the farmers to be productive and beneficiary through the activities done in seed adaptation on their plots of land.

Mr. AbyotMola DMU Choke watershade Research and Project development Directorate Director, says that though all sorts of agricultural researches are done in the innovative platforms, activities on the adaptation and selection of fruits, vegetables, plants and animals become productive.

Sinan Woreda Gedamawit Kebele climate smart village is the one among 13 innovative platforms makes the community farmers beneficiary on apple, beer barley, bean, potato and other Dega plants adaptability.

Farmers of the community noted that their lives improve through the practice of modern agriculture they do on their small plot of land.

As a result of the close professional support of DMU farmers’ income in the innovative platforms increases surprisingly. For instance, a farmer earns about half a million birr from apple plant sale in a year, Agriculture Extension Experts of the kebele witnessed.

It is noted that DMU works in closer with the community in the selection of seeds and plants, to enhance product and productivity through trainings.

Climate smart Village innovative platforms are established in Sinan, Machakel, Gozamen, Awabel, Aneded, BasoLiben and DejenWoredas that are having 5 various ecosystems.
