DMU Develops New Bean Species

DMU:-The bean productivity is decreasing from time to time in Gojjam. The reason is that the decreasing of yield amount and the tendency disease infection is highly feasible. This problem leads farmers to stop bean farming. In relation to this Debre Markos University aggressively works with the farmers and brings a new species of bean that has a capacity to control infection and have better productivity.

The species is developed by a team of researchers in agriculture and natural resource college, DMU. The team leader of the research, Mr. MelkamuTiru states that the result of getting better species of bean to the quest of farmers has tremendous effect on bean crop production. Farmers were terribly facing a difficulty to manage the infection of disease and to improve the amount of yielding. That is why; DMU researches solutions to the problem on finding a new species.

According to the researchers try to adopt DOSHA species of bean to its effect of controlling diseases and better yield. The university produces basic seed and pre basic seed on its demonstration site and plan to distribute for seed multiplication. The amount of yield per Hectare is expected to 15 quintals.
