Nursing Overview

Nursing is one of the most exciting and in-demand jobs in the world today. Nurses work to promote health, prevent disease and help patients cope with illness.

Nursing is an extraordinarily exciting field of study that provides fragrance and human lines to the world. The diversified and most interesting activities of nursing appear in our day to day life as well as at different scientific literature.

Nurses work in an environment that is constantly changing to provide the best possible interventions for patients. They are continuously learning about the latest technology and medication as well as considering the evidence that their nursing practice is based upon. Because they will actually spend more face-to-face time with a patient than doctors, nurses must be particularly skilled at interacting with patients, putting them at ease, and assisting them in their recovery.

Nurses work independently or as collaborative members of a health care team in settings which include hospitals, mental health facilities, rural and remote nursing posts, Indigenous communities, schools, prisons, residential aged care facilities, the armed forces, universities, nursing colleges, general practice offices, businesses, professional organizations and people’s homes. Nurses also work in non-clinical roles to educate undergraduate and newly graduated nurses, conduct research into nursing and health related issues; and participate in developing health policy and systems of health care management.

They are advocates and health educators for patients, families and communities. When providing direct patient care, they observe, assess and record patient symptoms, and progress. Nurses collaborate with physicians in the performance of treatments and examinations, the administration of medications and the provision of direct patient care in convalescence and rehabilitation.

Today the lack of highly qualified nurses is major problem both within the health care delivery system and higher learning institutions. Although nursing shortages have occurred before, today’s is different  because it is being driven not just by low level of enrollment, but by a growing demand for advanced nursing service in education, research, practice and management . Often nurses working at different levels currently are overstretched beyond their limit to overcome the shortage. However, this jeopardizes the quality and quantity of the service provided and increased the high turnover of nurses and burnout.

Opportunities for further education includes: Master of nursing in Adult Health nursing, Surgical Nurse, Medical Nurse, Pediatrics Nurse, Public Health, Maternity and Reproductive Health, Psychiatry, Operation Room nurse, anesthesia nurse,  emergency nursing, oncology nurse …………etc.
