Public Health Overview

Public health department since its establishment under health Science College, Debre Markos University in 2001 E.C (2008/9) has played a significant role in the countries health task force production. The department has undergraduate (both regular and extension) and post graduate programs in four specializations (General MPH, MPH-Reproductive health, MPH-nutrition and MPH epidemiology). In these programs, the department is currently enrolling and teaching about 897 students. There is good staff profile in the department as nine out of 35 staffs are assistant professors and only 5 (3 on MPH study) staffs at BSc level. The staffs are also highly energetic in research activities and involve in community service activities. This is evidenced by more than 100 scientific research publication on which the staffs are involved. The staffs are also providing a well-known podoconiosis prevention and treatment project. We are currently striving to work more than this and be one of best departments in the university. The department would like to welcome all interested stakeholders to work with us and want to give comment or suggestion. Our office is located at DMU main campus, block 43 office number 202.

The department aspires to be one of best departments in east Africa by 2025.
