Well come to the department of chemistry at Debre Markos university. Since chemistry is key science for the development of any country, it is one of the first departments opened during the inauguration of Debre Markos University in 1999 E.C. The department is upgrading itself in professional mix and facilities to provide quality education and engaged demand driven research and community services.
Our department offers MOE accredited Bachelor of Science and Master of Science programs in chemistry. Our aim is to prepare knowledgeable and skill full graduate in chemistry that can engage in further studies in graduate or professional school, or employ as a chemist or technology professional in different sectors.
We are determined to play our role in improving the lives of the people through providing quality education, research and community service. The department has energetic and dedicated young staffs that are always there to support students during their time of study.
Finally, we like to say that our door is widely opened to work with any stakeholders and collaborate with other national and international institutions to improve our service and status.
Mission
The mission of the department is to;
- Produce competent, ethical and innovative chemists through providing quality and relevant education, and engaging students in co-curricular activities;
- Carryout problem solving scientific research through the active involvement of stakeholders; and
- Design and implement community and consultancy services that shall provide to the developmental needs of the country through active involvement of community and stakeholders;
Vision
Department of chemistry in Debre Markos University aspires to be one of the top ten chemistry departments in Africa by 2025.
