DMU: Debre Markos University commemorates the 123rd victory of Adwa in a panel discussion under the theme “The victory of Adwa for National unity”.

During the opening of the panel the president of Debre Markos University Dr. Tafere Melakusays that Adwa Victory is the symbol of all blacks; that is why, commemorating the victory of Adwa as the cause for national unity and symbol of the unification of Ethiopians at time problems.Dr. Tafere remarks that it is very challenging to bring prosperity and national unity in the current Ethiopia without giving appropriate respect for the deeds of our great parents during the Ethio-Italy War 123 years ago. Therefore, we have to be proud for the actions of of our great parents and honor their national sentiment and quality of leadership in all aspects to keep Ethiopia as an independent sovereign country. During the panel discussion in line with honoring the great achievements of the then Ethiopian Leaders the pace of the current generation is also scrutinized. The current generations have double responsibilities to bring social, economic, political and technological improvements with establishing strong unity and brotherhood in the country.

Professor ShumetSisagnin his keynote speech entitledThe secretes of the victory of Adwa” explains about the secretes of the victory from the perspective of Emperor Minelik’s Leadership roles and the participation of the people.

Artist Eshetu Tiruneh presents a tale of Adwa that shows the importance of independence to exercise identity. According to him, the victory of Adwa has played significant roles and has made Ethiopians proud everywhere they go. Hence, Adwa is our National identity and dignity that placed us in the sovereign tower, Artist Eshetu added.

In addition, in a research paper entitled “The victory of Adwa and historical lessons obtained” is presented what the citizens should learn from the victory of Adwa, and discussion was held on the causes of the war and the consequences of pre and post Adwa.

Book Reviews, poems and other literary genres are the parts of the panel discussion.
