The Research and Technology Transfer Vice President Office (RTTVPO) is responsible for providing strategic leadership and coordinating Debre Markos University’s research, innovation, community engagement, and technology transfer activities. The Office is mandated to promote high-quality, ethical, and impact-oriented research that responds to societal needs, aligns with national development priorities, and meets internationally recognized academic and scientific standards. Through this leadership role, the RTTVPO ensures that knowledge generation, dissemination, and application contribute effectively to socio-economic development, environmental sustainability, and evidence-based policy and practice.
To fulfill its mandate, the RTTVPO fosters a robust and enabling research and innovation ecosystem by promoting interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary collaboration, strengthening research ethics and integrity, enhancing scholarly publication and knowledge dissemination, and facilitating the translation of research outputs into practical technologies, services, and innovations. The Office also plays a pivotal role in building and sustaining strategic partnerships with industry, government institutions, communities, and international research organizations, thereby enhancing the relevance, visibility, and impact of the University’s research and innovation activities.
The RTTVPO oversees six directorates: the Research, Publication, Ethics and Extension Directorate; the Community Service Directorate; the Haddis Alemayehu Institute of Cultural Studies (HAICS); the Center of Excellence for Crop Production and Agro-processing Directorate; the University–Industry Linkage and Technology Transfer Directorate; and the Choke Research and Development Directorate. Through these integrated structures, the Office ensures the effective dissemination and utilization of research outputs and positions Debre Markos University as a research-intensive institution with strong societal relevance and sustained contributions to local, national, and global knowledge systems.
