Debre Markos University and Surrounding Community Radio Station FM 97.7 is a station established under the university to serve the campus community, the East Gojjam Zone, and neighboring areas. It was licensed under the Ethiopian Media Authority Proclamation No. 1238/2021 and registered under No. 51/2015 as a community radio station, with an assigned frequency of 97.7 MHz. The station received its broadcasting license from the Ethiopian Media Authority in June 2015 and began broadcasting in June 2016.
The station, Debre Markos University, and the surrounding community collaboratively produce programs and manage the station. It serves as a hub connecting university staff and local residents to meet and collaborate. The experience is fun, engaging, and empowering; through different radio programs related to university research, education, health, culture, good governance, and the rights of women, youth and children and the like, it offers participants the satisfaction of creating radio content and transforming community life.
Debre Markos University & Surrounding Community Radio informs, engages, and empowers our citizens. We fill the gaps left by corporate media, exploring issues with depth and inclusivity. We celebrate the best of our community, work to improve the rest, and provide a platform for the marginalized.
At our Community Radio, volunteers produce and operate programs. University students also have the opportunity to participate. The station remains responsive to community needs and consistently seeks input from listeners.
General Objective of the station
General objective of the station is to provide accessible and up-to-date information to promote and realize the holistic socio-economic development of the local community.
