Choke Research & Development Center

Choke Research & Development Center is multidisciplinary research hub aiming to improve scientific knowledge while safeguarding natural ecosystems. Led by its motto “Preserving Nature & Advancing Knowledge”, the center focuses on creating evidence-based solutions to tackle pressing environmental & livelihood challenges around its vicinity, Ethiopia & beyond. Located in the ecologically important Choke Mountain area, it serves as an epicenter for research on climate change adaptation, biodiversity conservation, ecology, sustainable livelihoods, agroecology & watershed management. The Choke Mountain region is one of Ethiopia’s main water sources & biodiversity hotspots, offering a unique environment for interdisciplinary research. Choke Research & Development Center collaborates closely with local communities, government agencies, NGOs & international research partners to turn scientific discoveries into practical applications. Through community-based research, policy work & capacity-building programs, the Center supports sustainable land use, resilient farming, ecosystem restoration & better rural livelihoods. Besides its research efforts, the center plays an important role in community development & sharing knowledge. It ensures that scientific results directly contribute to local & national development goals. By blending traditional knowledge with modern science, center aims to encourage inclusive & sustainable development. Choke Research & Development Center is dedicated to supporting Debre Markos University’s mission of academic excellence, innovation & making a positive impact on society. It also aims to help conserve the Choke Mountain watershed for future generations.
