History and Heritage Overviews

  • History and Heritage Overviews

History is the study of past world and how it has changed over time. It is a way of thinking about how and why past environments, societies, governments, and beliefs were different from and similar to our own. History is about finding clues about the past and following those clues to craft true histories about ourselves and others. By asking questions of available evidence, historians can make rational, informed judgements about human actions in the past and examine why people were motivated to act as they did and the effects of these actions. Studying history develops our historical consciousness, enabling us to orient ourselves in time and place our experiences in a broader framework of human experience. Heritage is the product of historical processes among society. The theoretical understanding of historical knowledge without the skills of identifying and managing heritage resources cannot entail the change and continuity of the human past. The inclusion of Heritage courses in the department for our graduates provides not only the theoretical knowledge of history but also practical skills of managing heritage resources. The department integrates heritage courses with history that can create opportunity in enhancing awareness on our rich heritage resources.
