Debre Markos University Leaders’ forum members and the community command post discuss on the current situation of the Institution and National affairs.
It is noted that the discussion is held to create awareness to the community to protect themselves from damage in relation to the declared state of emergency that the country has already on.
Mr. Haile Andarge, Law School Deputy Dean, present a paper entitled “Prohibited activities on state of emergency and universities” for discussion. As to Mr. Haile the state of emergency requires the people careful respection of laws. State of Emergency and its base lines, pre requisites and reasons for declaration of state of emergency, prohibited rights, responsible bodies to declare state of emergency and time bound are among points that Haile describes.
State of Emergency is declared by responsible government body at times of imminent problems that cannot be solved through the regular laws, Haile added. Debre Markos University Leaders forum discuss on the paper and pause questions accordingly. Comander Asirat, East Gojjam Zone Coordinator, States that the discussion is designed since it is very difficult to bring clear understanding to the people using government media. The commander gives explanation and answers to the questions paused by members of University Leaders forum.
All University Community are responsible to collaborate with police in identifying criminals since universities are places where they are vulnerable for attack by irresponsible persons. Thus, University staffs should work to bring peaceful and secured teaching-learning process by providing the criminals who fired the campus, commander underlines.
Finally, it is noted that Debre Markos University leaders forum agree that awareness creation on state of emergency to the community should be given due emphasis since unknowing laws cannot let people free from penality.
