
DMU:- Debre Markos University Women’s Affair and HIV/AIDS Prevention Directorate in collaboration with Mahibere Hiwot for Social Development conducts a two days Reproductive Health Festival that enables senior students to share life experiences to the fresh ones.
It is noted that the objective of the festival is to aware female students of the University to protect themselves from Reproductive Health problems since Debre Markos University Women’s Affair and HIV/AIDS prevention Directorate is working in collaboration with Mahibere Hiwot for Social Development on Reproductive Health issues.
Female instructors and senior female students share their life experiences to first year female students. Mr. Tadesse Tenaw, Debre Markos University Academic Affairs Vice President, states that first year students might face a number of difficulties and challenges during their stay in the university since they are new for the university departed from their families. Thereby, fresh students can share experiences from female instructors and senior female students that could enable them protect themselves from upcoming problems which may affect their success and achievement. Furthermore, the University supports and encourages low achiever female students through tutor and other meanses, Mr. Tadesse added.
On the same news, graduates versus non-graduates play a foot ball match which takes the attention of the spectators for the whole course. Graduates win the game in 5 to 4 goals through penalty as their play completed in a Zero- Zero equal score. In addition, males and females run for 800mts and winners ranking from 1-3 get prizes. Student Kassahun Yeshanbel also receives a prize since he coaches the students’ male football team.
Three female instructors drawn from Social Science and Humanities College, Education and Behavioral Science Institute and Technology College respectively share their life experiences for female students. The Instructors give detail explanation on the challenges they faced, and how they could be instructors, too. They also promised that they are voluntary to share their experiences and give support in time of challenges. Female students should also be strong to challenge the problems they might face and attend their education to achieve their aim and be successful, instructors advised.
Finally, the yesteryear high grade achiever female students from each college take encouragement awards.
