182 Persons Donate Blood at DMU

Debre Markos blood bank service in association with Debre Markos University organizes five days blood donation program at the University from January 24-28/2018. During the program, 182 persons donate blood to the blood bank.

Debre Markos blood bank service expert Mr. Abraham Abebaw explains that the objective of blood donation was to provide pure blood from volunteers to highly vulnerable individuals such as mothers during delivery, for high level of surgeon, babies with blood shortage when they are born and others. It was noticed that the blood donation was conducted upon the status of individuals whose age is between 18-65 years, 49 kg weigh and above, with the good will of donors. However, pregnant women, breast feeder women and patients who take medicine do not the part donations.

Hence, being one of the sixth blood banks found in Amhara Region, Debre Markos blood bank service is distributing blood for 14 hospitals including Debre Markos Referral Hospital without any payment. Thus, the blood is collected from different nearby educational institutions and volunteers.

The blood donation service was provided via Red Cross society before 2013, since then, it is moderately activated in blood bank services organized by health care institutions. Nowadays, Debre Markos blood bank service is doing its level best deeds than ever before. In this regard, Debre Markos University community is also doing remarkable achievements on donating blood. In order to facilitate the blood donation service at Debre Markos University Life Droplets /‘Yehiwot tebita’ students’ club plays a pivotal role. In line with this, more than 40 students from the club have taken training regarding on blood donation so as to create awareness for the university community.
