DMU provides Training for Gohe Farmers’ Cooperative Union at West Gojjam

Debre Markos University the Directorate of Community service provides training on Strategic operation of cooperative business for Gohe farmers’ Cooperative Union, which is found at Burie. 50 trainees from Womberma, Sekela, Burie and Burie Surrounding Woredas are the participants of the training.

During the training, training and consultancy officer in the directorate of community service Mr. Basazinew Dires states that Gohe Farmers’ Cooperative Union is currently working in a conventional way that needs transformation to a modern cooperative business operation.

On the occasion, the dean of Burie campus Mr. Tegbew Walle explains that as Burie campus provides community based services in teaching, research and community service since its establishment as a campus of Debre Markos University in 2013. Particularly, community services are organized for the surrounding community upon their interests and needs. Mr. Tegbew adds that the training organized at Burie aims at improving the Union’s financial and management capabilities.

The Gohe Farmers’ Cooperative Union has face problems. Some of the problems are incompetent structure, lack of qualified human power, leadership faults, lack of commitment and weak monitoring system. In general, the cooperative business needs improvement in a holistic management skill in each structure to maintain their services adequately.

Thus, the cooperative needs conceptual understanding and implementation on the sustainable management periodically. The contents of the training are Cooperative business operation and finance management and saving habit that are given by Mr. Zemenu Amare and Mrs. Abiyu Gete respectively. In addition to these, Mr. Tadele Alamneh trains on partnership and linkage of unions with saving & credit financial institutions.
