DMU: – Debre Markos University is to work with ICIPE in Ethiopia,which is contributing to development through insect sciences in human, animal, plant and environmental health issues.

Mr.Endeshaw Kassa, Debre Markos University Project Design and Partnership Directorate Director, states that the linkage with ICIPE in Ethiopia organization started via email as he searched for and made contacts with individuals of the organization. Thus, Doctor Workneh Ayalew, More Young Entrepreneurs in Silk and Honey (MOYESH) program Coordinator, ICIPE Ethiopia, was contacted through email and invited to Debre Markos University for briefing about the activities of the organization and possible areas that Debre Markos University can work with the Organization by making MoU, Endeshaw noticed.
Endeshaw thanked and appreciated the motive, commitment and responsibility of Doctor Workneh as he is very interested and motivated to help and work with the University.
Doctor Workneh Ayalew, MOre Young Entrepreneurs in Silk and Honey (MOYESH) ICIPE Ethiopia, Program Coordinator, gives brief explanation about the what ICIPE is and activities of ICIPE organization, ongoing projects including YESH project which was launched since 2015 to respond to the country’s unemployment challenges, objectives of the organization, outcomes of the activities, areas that the organization is working in, partners of the organization and opportunities that Debre Markos University can work with the organization under the presence of Debre Markos University Top Management bodies and concerned and invited individuals.
In explaining about the opportunities that Debre Markos University and ICIPE, Ethiopia organization can work together, Doctor Workneh says that human health, animal health, plant health and environmental health are possible areas for collaboration to work together including capacity building and institutional development programs. Thus, staffs of Debre Markos University can have a chance for scholarship from the partners of the organization as they call out, Doctor Workneh remarked.
In addition, Debre Markos University should prioritize areas for collaboration and partnership using comparative advantages that would benefit the community of the University at large rather than starting too many ideas together at once, he advised the University.
Debre Markos University leaders and invited individuals who take the presentation state that it is a golden opportunity to have Doctor Workneh Ayalew who is working in the ICIPE Ethiopia in reducing youth unemployment by providing economic opportunities in silk farming and beekeeping for young people, through training and job creation and entrepreneurship support.
Finally, participants asked questions and suggest their ideas regarding the opportunities that Debre Markos University can work with the ICIPE organization.
Doctor Yheyis Aregu, Debre Markos University, Academic Affairs Vice President, says that the University is committed to work with such organizations to change the livelihood of the community.
It is noted that More Young Entrepreneurs in Silk and Honey (MOYESH) program enables 100,000 Ethiopian youth to secure dignified and fulfilling direct employment along beekeeping and agriculture value chains. Debre Markos University and ICIPE Ethiopia are about to sign MoU.
