Members of the Debre Markos University Leadership Forum paid a site visit to the construction progress of the University’s Community School.
The Community School is being constructed to deliver quality education to the children of university staff and the local community. According to the project coordinator and consulting engineer, Mr. Yechale Melkamu, once the construction is fully completed, it will enable students from the university and the surrounding area to access high-quality education.

Mr. Yechale noted that the university is working to complete the project by March 10, 2026 (Yekatit 30, 2018 E.C.). He highlighted that the construction has currently reached 93.5% completion, with the remaining 6.5% expected to be finalized by the March deadline.
During the visit, it was explained that the project comprises 19 total blocks and Buildings organized into 3 distinct zones
Dr. Sayeh Kassaw, President of Debre Markos University, stated that efforts are underway to launch school operations in the upcoming new academic year. Regarding student enrollment and educational delivery, Dr. Sayeh noted that a four-member study group has been established to research and adopt best practices from community schools at other universities regarding he student admission and education delivery modalities.
