1. PhD in Animal Production

Admission requirements:

Applicants should have:

• Master of Science degree in animal production, animal nutrition, animal genetics and breeding, dairy science, animal physiology, range management and ecology or other related sciences or an equivalent degree from an accredited university
• The age of the candidates must be not more than 40 years;
• Candidates MSc program course work must be greater than CGPA of 3.00 and the thesis grade must be good and more than that.
• Candidates requesting admission from fields other than Animal Science may be required to take additional courses to compensate for the deficiencies as per the recommendation of DGC and approved by Committee for graduate studies (CGS)
• The candidate must pass the qualifying (entrance) examination prepared by the department of animal science.
• Candidates must write 4 pages of concept note/ synopsis that provides a clear and concise framework of the research that he/she wants to undertake which give the university an idea of the applicant’s areas of research interest in order to avail the necessary assistance for them to develop a full research proposal and allocate supervisors to give the necessary assistance.
• A candidate must be supported by at least two letters of recommendation preferably one from the candidate’s master’s program instructors, and the other from employers or professional associations that can substantiate the applicant’s qualifications and academic potential for success/completion of the graduate program
• A candidate must bring a sponsor letter for a research grant and study leave salary payment.

2. PhD in Animal Nutrition

Admission requirements:

Applicants should have:

• Master of Science degree in animal nutrition, animal production, animal physiology, range management, biology, biochemistry, Human nutrition and related fields from an accredited higher learning institution.
• Candidates requesting admission from fields other than animal nutrition may be required to take additional courses to compensate for the deficiencies as per the recommendation of the DGC.
• Candidates are required to have at least ‘good’ MSc thesis grade and above in their MSc thesis defense.
• Candidates are required to submit and defend a concept note prepared in not more than 5 pages on their intended PhD dissertation proposal with recent ideas in Animal Nutrition.
• The candidate must pass the qualifying (entrance) examination prepared by the Department of Animal Science.
• A candidate must be supported by at least two letters of recommendation preferably one from the candidate’s master’s program instructors, and the other from employers or professional associations that can substantiate the applicant’s qualifications and academic potential for success/completion of the graduate program.
  Unofficial copies of transcripts from universities should be attached/submitted during application to be used for evaluation purposes
• If the candidate passed all the requirements and get accepted, the official transcript should be submitted within a months’ time after getting registered
• Letter of sponsorship should be submitted at the time of registration
• The candidate should apply by filling and signing the application form of the University School of Graduate Studies
• Admission will not ensue until all documents have been received. If an applicant qualifies for admission, he will be informed by the department or college level graduate studies.
• Admission to the program could be done twice a year (in September and January of each year). The candidate should not be more than forty years of age at the time of admission.
• The candidate should fulfill all the requirements of the PhD program and pass the entrance exam in good standing and score.

3. Applicants of the PhD program in Developmental Psychology are expected to satisfy  the following:

• Have MA, M.Phil., MED or equivalent qualifications in Developmental Psychology, or
• Other related fields from a recognized university but applicants are required to take MA bridge courses in Developmental Psychology.
• Present evidences of research experiences (such as publication of articles in a journal or written evidence about their engagement in conducting research
• Submit a temporary research proposal for their future dissertation work
• Have a minimum of GOOD grade for his/her Thesis work in the Masters Degree program.
• Have a minimum of 3.00 CGPA in the Masters Degree program
• Pass entrance examination at a satisfactory level(50%+)
• Satisfy the general admission requirements of Graduate Programs set by MOSHE and DMU.
• Other things being equal, priority shall be given to those who have a good master’s degree in Developmental Psychology or in Psychology as a whole.
• Official transcripts from higher institutions attended.
• applicants who are staff members of governmental and non-governmental organizations and who fulfill the criteria of admission shall submit a sponsorhip letter.
•  In addition to the above requirements, applicants have to submit official transcripts from universities they have attended ; submit  Personal statement written in English (2-3 pages explaining why he/she is interested to join  the  program and how his/her experience will lend itself to successful completion of the program.

Call for Application  Home grown  Collaborative PhD  Programs

Debre Markos University (DMU) is glad to announce to PhD Applicants in   the Home Grown Collaborative PhD programs (HCPP) in the following in which potential candidates may apply.

• Entrance Exam Date: will be announced soon after application
• Eligibility Criteria:
• Academic Related Criteria:
  • Bachelor Degree CGPA> 2.75 for Males and  >2.5 for Females
  • Master’s Degree > 2 for Males and > 3:00 for Females.
  • Master’s Thesis/Project: Very Good and Above for Males and Good and Above for Females
  • Maximum Age Limit: 40 Years for Males and 45 Years for Females
  • Fitness to Curriculum Requirement is Mandatory.
• Recommendation Letter: must submit at least one recommendation letter from home institution and two from previous supervisors
• Commitment letter: must submit signed individual commitment letter after getting  admission to  the program
• Synopsis Presentations: the applicant should submit and present 3-5 pages of synopsis to demonstrate his/ her research interest and area.
• Official transcript: successful applicants must submit the official transcript of his/her first and 2^nd degree to the Office of Registrar of Debre Markos University , P.O.Box 269

6. Admission Requirements and Eligibility for PhD in TEFL.

• Entry to the program would be in line with successful completion of BA or BED in English and MA or MED in TEFL.
• Having a BA or BED degree in English from a recognized University with a minimum of CGPA of 2.00 as this point is a minimum requirement for graduation
• Having an MA or MED degree in TEFL with a minimum of CGPA of 3.00 as this point is a minimum requirement for graduation
• Having an MA or MED degree in TEFL and a minimum of good result in thesis as this remark is just above the minimum requirement for research skill
• A letter of sponsorship
• Pass mark in the departmental entrance examination

7. Admission to the Literature PhD program requires.

• Proof of completion of a relevant master’s program in English, Amharic or any other languages and Literature with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Graduates with M.A. in Amharic or Folklore or Theatre Arts are also eligible for the program.
• It can be open to applicants with a different academic background, such as History, Anthropology, Sociology, Psychology, and Gender Studies. However, these applicants must have an appropriate research topic, PhD proposal and research questions. If admitted to the program, they are also required to take prerequisite courses in consultation with the Department.
• Pass mark in the departmental entrance examination
• Official transcripts of all graduate study must be provided.
• A letter of sponsorship.

8.  PHD in Applied Nuclear Physics

Admission criteria:

• MSc holders (Nuclear Physics, Physics, Electronics, Nuclear/Electrical Engineering, Agricultural Science (Agronomy),Inorganic Chemistry, Ecology and Environmental Science and related disciplines) from Recognized University

9. Applied Entomology PhD applicants for 2014 E.C (2021/2022).

• This PhD Program will be supported by a competitive based project for the candidates.

Admission requirements

Prospective candidates or applicants to the program should have:

• MSc or equivalent degree in Biology, Applied Entomology/Insect Sciences, Medical entomology, Tropical infectious disease, Agricultural entomology, Post-harvest, Veterinary Medicine, Zoology.
• A satisfactory performance in the entrance examination.
• Meet the general DMU admission requirements for a PhD Program.
• Admission to other MSc applicants from relevant fields of study other than the above mentioned fields shall be based on the recommendation of the department of Biology graduate committee/council.
• an overall graduate grade point of 3.0 is the minimum admission requirement
• Transcripts from all Universities attended
• Written recommendation from at least 2 references who have had sufficient contact with the prospective applicant to judge his/ her personal qualities and ability to work with others or independently after passing the entrance exam, .
• Having a support letter from the organization he/ she is working for.

PhD programs

There are two PhD programs at DebreMarkos University. The programs are PhD in TEFL(teaching English as foreign language ) and Applied Entomology

 Admission requirements for TEFL PhD

Applicant shall be admitted to the TEFL PhD Program when they fulfill the folioing academic and non-academic requirements.

• Entry to the program would be in line with successful Completion of BA BED in English and MA or MED in TEFL.
• Having a BA or BED degree in English from a recognized University with a Minimum of CGPA of 2.00 as this minimum requirement for graduation.
• Having MA or MED degree in TEFL with a minimum of CGPA of 3.00 as this point is a minimum requirement for graduation.
• Having an-MA or MED degree in TFEL and a minimum of good Result in thesis as this remark is Just above the minimum requirement for research skill.
• Score of 75% out of 100% or above in the developmental entrance examinations (90%) + interview (10%) as current performance is decisive for quality education.
• The selection of best candidates for the program also consider the following performances in addition to entrance exam.

• Producing a letter of Sponsorship

Admission requirements for Applied Entomology PhD

Prospective candidates or applicants to the program should have:

• MSc or equivalent degree in Biology (Applied Entomology/Insect Sciences, medical entomology, agricultural entomology, Tropical Infectious Disease ) from a recognized university.
• A satisfactory performance in the entrance examination.
• Meet the general DMU admission requirements for a PhD Program.

Admission to other MSc applicants from relevant fields of specialization shall be based on the recommendation of the Biology department graduate committee/council.

• An overall graduate grade point of 3.0 is the minimum admission requirement
• Transcripts from all Universities attended
• Written recommendation from at least 2 references who have had sufficient contact with the prospective applicant to judge his/ her personal qualities and ability to work with others or independently.
• Havening a support letter from the organization he/ she is working for.
• Personal statement of motivation.
