Signing Ceremony for Key Performance Indicator (KPI) Contract at Debre Markos University

 

Debre Markos University recently hosted a signing ceremony for the 2018 Key Performance Indicator (KPI) contract in collaboration with the Minister of Education. This event marked a pivotal moment as the university formalized its commitment to the KPI framework, which has been in place since 2017.

The ceremony featured an opening speech by Dr. Yiheyis Aregu, Vice President for Academic Affairs. In his address, he emphasized the importance of the KPI contract, stating that it not only signifies an agreement at the university level but also extends to the various departments within their respective areas of work. Dr. Yiheyis acknowledged the university’s commendable performance based on the 2017 KPIs. He credited the university’s achievements to strong internal support. Dr. Yiheyis urged all leaders to take responsibility for the successful implementation of the signed contract, emphasizing the benefits it would bring to both the institution and the local community.

Following the opening remarks, the signing ceremony commenced. Dr. Sayeh Kassew, President of Debre Markos University, along with Dr. Yeheis Aregu and other key officials, signed the performance agreements. These included contracts with Dr. Leknaw Yirsaw, representative for Research and Technology Transfer, Dr. Andargachew Bayle, Vice President for Administration and Development, and Dr. Haimanot Getachew, Head of the President’s Office. The three Vice Presidents and Head of the President’s Office also signed agreements with their respective departments.

A brief report on the university’s performance in 2017 was presented by Dr. Eshetu Kibret for the academic sector and Dr. Abiyot Animaw for the delivery of student services. They highlighted various initiatives, including capacity-building training, management of grade 12 final exams, student admissions, and about the different facilities. Their report also covered the efforts made by the students from the Institute of Technology to develop software, resource distribution, classroom allocation, curriculum audits, and internal revenue generation.

In his closing remarks, Dr. Sayeh Kassew addressed several key issues, including the implementation of the One Card System, strategies to resolve office challenges, and the construction progress of the postgraduate and ICT buildings.  He underscored the importance of quality education and teaching, as well as the need for enhanced service delivery and resource management. Dr. Sayeh also noted the university’s recognition for its research contributions and community engagement. He stressed the vital role of the administrative sector in ensuring efficient procurement, finance management, and general services to prevent resource wastage. This signing ceremony marks a significant step forward for Debre Markos University, reinforcing its commitment to achieving excellence in education and community service.
