Staff Academic Administrative Graduate
On February 8, 2017, Debre Markos University proudly held its 17th consecutive graduation ceremony, marking a significant milestone in the academic journey of its students. The event was attended by senior university leaders, members of the Senate, the university community, and the families of graduating students.
A total of 2,184 students graduated, comprising 1,617 males and 267 females, across various fields of study, including first, second, and third-degree programs. The ceremony began with a welcome speech and a brief report on the fiscal year by the university’s President, Dr. Sayih Kassaw. Following this, a message from the President of the Students’ Union was delivered by student Getasew Kebede.
The Hadis Alemayehu Cultural Group added a vibrant touch to the ceremony by performing traditional songs for the graduating students. After the students took their oath, certificates were awarded to those who ranked first to third in both regular and evening programs across colleges, institutions, and schools. Medals were also presented to the top three students in the regular program.
Among the graduating students, Fasika Fentahun emerged as the top female student with a remarkable score of 3.98, while Dereje Worke achieved the highest score among male students with a perfect 4. Both were awarded trophies for their outstanding academic achievements.
The ceremony concluded with a congratulatory song and a spectacular fireworks display, marking a memorable end to the graduation program.
ደብረ ማርቆስ ዩኒቨርሲቲ የትምህርት ጥራትን፤ የማህበረሰብ አገልግሎት ተደራሽነት እና አግባብነትን መሰረት ያደረገ ቁልፍ የአፈጻጸም አመላካቾች (KPIS) ስምምነት ውል (Performance Contracting Agreement) በዩኒቨርሲቲያችን ፕሬዚዳንት ሳይህ ካሰው (ዶ/ር) ከኢ.ፊ.ዴ.ሪ ትምህርት ሚኒስቴር ጋር ተፈራርመዋል።
ይህ የውል ስምምነት መሰረት ያደረገባቸው ቁልፍ የአፈጻጸም አመላካቾች ቀደም ሲል በዩኒቨርሲቲያችን ተግባራዊ እየተደረጉ የቆዩ ሲሆን በቀጣይም በስምምነቱ መሰረት ስራዎችን በየደረጃው ላሉ የስራ ክፍሎች እና ሰራተኞች በማውረድና ትኩረት ተሰጥቶ ከፍተኛ ውጤት ለማስመዝገብ በትጋት የሚሰራ መሆኑን የደብረ ማርቆስ ዩኒቨርሲቲ ከፍተኛ አመራሮች በውል ፊርማ ፕሮግራሙ ላይ አረጋግጠዋል።
የቁልፍ ስራዎች አፈጻጸም ውል (Performance Contracting Agreement) ከፍተኛ ትምህርት ተቋማት ሳይንሳዊና ዓለም አቀፋዊ መለኪያዎች ላይ ያተኮረ ዕድገት እንዲኖራቸው የሚያደርጋቸው ሲሆን ስምምነቱ ግልጽነትና ተጠያቂነት ያለው የክትትልና ግምገማ ስርዓት እንዲኖርና ዩኒቨርሲቲዎች በተልዕኳቸው ላይ አትኩረው እንዲሰሩ በኢ.ፊ.ዴ.ሪ ትምህርት ሚኒስቴር በኩል ተገልጿል።

The Lifting up Young Female Entrepreneurs (LiYFE) project, a collaborative initiative between Debre Markos University, Bahir Dar University, Injibara University (Ethiopia), and Indiana University (USA), funded by the U.S. Embassy in Ethiopia, has successfully concluded its first awarding ceremony at Debre Markos University. This impactful project is dedicated to empowering young female innovators and entrepreneurs in the Debre Markos-Bahir Dar corridor, enabling them to transform their ideas into thriving businesses.
Awarding Ceremony Highlights
On November 28, 2024, the LiYFE project recognized the top 18 finalists from Debre Markos University and Injibara University during a grand awarding ceremony. These remarkable young women were awarded startup equipment to support the launch of their innovative businesses. The event was a celebration of their hard work, creativity, and determination.
The awarding ceremony for the 9 best finalist businesses from Bahir Dar University will take place in the near future, completing the project’s mission of empowering young female entrepreneurs across the region.

Creating partnership and collaboration from both national and international institutions is very essential for universities mandate execution since imperative for experience sharing and competence upgrading. Accordingly, Debre Markos University (DMU) is striving to its best towards networking. It has created partnership and collaboration with different universities in Europe (University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna; Technical University of Vienna; Molise University in Italy; Krakow Agricultural University; Ljubljana University in Slovenia; Weinstephan Triesdorf University in Germany; Oslo University; University of South Eastern Norway, …); in USA (Indiana University; Olympia Green State College);… We have also started networking towards study abroad programs with different Chines Universities; for instance, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Institute of Urban Development; Graduate school of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences; University of Chinese academy of sciences, Nanjing institute of soil science, Kunming Institute of Zoology; University of science and technology of china (ustc); Gunagdong University of Technology.
In order to upgrade the networking to strategic academic partnership, Debre Markos University President had attended “2024 China-Africa Innovation Collaboration and Development Forum” held from 26 – 28 October 2024. Guests from all over the world attended the conference. In the conference, DMU president presented paper entitled “Upgrading Academic Networking to Strategic Partnership”. In the presentation, brief description about Debre Markos University as well as potential areas of partnership and collaboration were presented. In this conference, the University signed MoU with “Oil Crops Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Science”. This MoU is agreement to work together in different areas of academics. There was also visit and discussion to work together with the horticultural institute of the Huazhong Agricultural University.
It is not only with Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences but also visit and signing of MoU was conducted with Hebei Academy of Agriculture and Forest Sciences. Hebei University is located in Hebei province of Chinese and there was good discussion with higher and middle level officials about areas of partnership and collaboration. We discussed to work together in collaboration towards research, staff and student exchange, and demand driven community service project. In this University, signing of MoU was conducted with Institute of Biotechnology and Food Science; Practicing the Belt and Road Initiative, Assisting Sino-Ethiopian Scientific and Technological Cooperation.
