Debre Markos University and Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta, Indonesia sign Memorandum of Understanding

DMU: – Debre Markos University and Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta sign Memorandum of Understanding that enables them to work together collaboratively in areas of agreement intending to enhance performance and achievement of the partners.

Debre Markos University Public Relations and Communications Directorate Director, Mr. Girmaw Ashebir says that the purpose of signing the MoU is to outline a framework of cooperation between the partners, govern and guide the appropriate interaction. It is expected to provide a set of leading directions to assure the mutual benefit of the two parties, Girmaw added.

Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta, Indonesia where Mr. Girmaw has learned his MA in scholarship is well experienced University which gives educational trainings focusing on culture, language and methodology. The University gives scholarship internationally for about 200 students yearly, Girmaw witnessed.

In addition, Girmaw pointed out that he has been working aggressively to bring ties with his home University, Debre Markos and Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta where he received his MA in Art Education. Thus, the collaboration can be realized through efforts made in contacting and discussing with Embassy of Indonesia, Addis Ababa, he remarked. The commitment and initiation of Embassy of Indonesia shall be recognized as it is a break through to work together, he concluded.

It is noted that zoom meetings were held between Debre Markos University and Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta Higher Officials due to the pandemic Corona (COVID 19) on areas where the two parties can work with.

Debre Markos University Project Design and Partnership Directorate Director, Endeshaw Kassa mentioning as the University is working collaboratively with national and International Universities says that the MoU signed by the two parties aims at working to transfer students and staffs, to conduct research and projects, to organize capacity building trainings, to facilitate technology transfer, to develop entrepreneurship, job creation and incubation of business and to assist each other on functioning of established laboratories and workshops.

It is noted that this MoU will remain valid for a period of three years and automatically extended by one year, hence, the cooperation period covers from 2021 to 2025.

The MoU is signed on line by UNY Rector, Prof. Dr. Sumaryato, M.Kes and Debre Markos University President, Doctor Tafere Melaku.
