Debre Markos University works to make the campus Attractive, Secured and Icon Image of the Surrounding Community

It has been 13 years since the establishment of Debre Markos University. Over these years the university has been striving in accomplishing its primary missions of its establishment; it has been working in producing knowledgeable, skilful and attitudinally matured graduates in different professions. Nevertheless, the university had no a standardized compound fence and grateful gate that deserves its status. The university now decides to build driveway, entrance, and exit gates as well as a strong fence for the Main Campus and the newly established Health Science Campus. Accordingly, the university makes contractual agreement with a Contractor named Bereket Endeshaw and with Brave Construction Consultancy PLC in Queen Sheba Hall with the presence of Officials from the university and Managers from the contractor company.  The agreement has been made between Dr. Tafere Melaku, President of Debre Markos University and Mr. Zena Ejigu, Deputy Manager of Bereket Endeshaw Contractor.

Dr. Tafere Melaku on the contractual agreement ceremony speaks “the construction of the  surrounding fence and gates has been given priority among other issues, however, due to different reasons the bid has delayed for two years to be completed. Now, the university management is committed to make it real and make campuses attractive and secured to the internal and external community of the university.”

The contractor is expected to show its commitment and strength by building the fence and the gates in the given time frame or before if possible, so that the relationship between the contractor and the university sustains. The entrance and exit gates of the university have to get priority preserving the already made design which represents the culture and history of the Gojjam community, Dr. Tafere remarked.

Mr. Zena Ejigu pointed “ Bereket Endeshaw Contractor having a  13 years’ service, has built different buildings in ministry offices and higher education institutions. It is our first time to work with Debre Markos University, we need to sustain the relationship, and thus we are committed to complete the construction on the given time frame.”

The time given for building the surrounding fences and gates of both the Main Campus and Health Science Campus is 720 days. The amount of money needed for the main campus is 120, 58, 499.90 (One Hundred Twenty Million Fifty Eight Thousand Four Hundred Ninety Nine.90 ETB) and 117, 413, 458.30 (One Hundred Seventeen Million Four Hundred Thirteen Thousand Four Hundred Fifty Eight.30 ETB).

Maximum effort is exerted to make the entrance gate have historical and cultural value. The gate will have electronic security check up system, drive gateway, entrance and exit way for people.
