It is noted that humans have had a relationship with art, in one form or another, since time immemorial. From prehistoric cave drawings to ancient instruments, it is obvious that art has always been and will continue to be an interwoven part of our existence, regardless of race, political leanings, or cultural background.

People appreciate art in different ways, whether it’s music, dance, poetry, drawings, paintings, or even graffiti. Some like to be directly involved in the creation of the art (artists) while others like to experience and appreciate it. Whatever the case, the arts play a big role in how humans see and interact with others and the world in general. Art helps us emotionally, financially, psychologically, and even helps to shape individual and collective personality.

Mrs. Azebeb Belay, Haddis Alemayehu Cultural Studies Institute, Arts Coordination Team Leader says that art crosses all divides. Thus, works of art, whether in physical or intangible form, can often easily be understood by people from different social, cultural, and political backgrounds. It is also important to beautifying the surroundings to helping to alleviate stress and discomforts. Thereby, art is essential for physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing, she added.

Moreover, it allows self-expression and self-awareness, it allows for complex ideas such as race, religion, and politics to be simplified using artworks, including songs, poetry, and drawings. It is a possibility for personal benefits by allowing for the creation of wealth for millions of people, and not just for those involved with the creation process. It also assists with the recording of history. Likewise, the different types of art in play in today’s society will help future generations understand what the world was like before they came along. In addition, through the messages embedded in art, people can see and understand mistakes from the past, which will inform decisions as to how to avoid them, Azebeb mentioned.

Finally, the arts are extremely significant to education. The beauty of teaching the arts to students is that it aids in developing creative people who think independently; self-expressive people with imaginative and innovative thinking. The arts should not be seen as secondary or supplementary to math and science courses. Rather, they should be seen as equally important in providing students with a well-rounded education. Therefore, those students who have the skills should come and participate in Haddis Alemayehu Cultural Studies Institute, she recommended..

Assistance Professor Gizachew Andarge, Haddis Alemayehu Cultural Studies Institute Director, speaking at the stage says that art in its various mediums is vital in sustaining life. It should be viewed as highly important to education to create a thriving society with meaningful expression, imagination and flourishing cultures. Art forces humans to look beyond that which is necessary to survive and leads people to create for the sake of expression and meaning, he added. In addition, art can communicate information, shape our everyday lives, make a social statement and be enjoyed for aesthetic beauty, he remarked.

Elsabet Takel, Debre Markos University, 4th year Theatrical Art Student, reminding  that she has been participating in such kinds of artistic performances since she was kid, the stages of performance helps her to develop confidence, express her feelings and even viewers can learn many things, she remarked the relevance of her participation.

It is noted that arts play an important role in promoting social and economic goals through local regeneration, attracting tourists, developing talent and innovation, improving health and wellbeing, and contributing to the delivery of public services. Thereby, you are invited to be participants in the monthly arts day of Debre Markos University Haddis Alemayehu Cultural Studies Institute.
