Debre Markos University Celebrates International Women’s day

DMU: Debre Markos University gender affairs and HIV/AIDS prevention directorate celebrates March 8 which is celebrated for about 42th round in Ethiopia under the slogan of “All bodies are responsible to ensure women’s participation and welfare.”

On the occasion, Mr. Tadesse Tenaw, Debre Markos University acting president, states that March 8 has been started to celebrate with the death, atrocity and horrors of several individuals in 1910 G.C. in the world. Since then, the international women’s day has been starting to celebrate all over the world including Ethiopia for the last 42 years. In this regard, tremendous deeds have been carried out regarding on Women efficiency. Likewise, 5o % of Women are also engaged and benefited from the education sector.

Mr. Tadesse also addresses that in account with the particular Debre Markos University admission capacity from the gender perspective. Currently, the total proportional in enrolment of female students in Debre Markos University reaches to 50%.

Mr. Genanew Jembere, Debre Markos University Civics and Ethical Education Lecturer, presents a paper for panel discussion, which is entitled “females educational participation”. International Women’s day historical existence, gender affairs, Women’s education participations, Women’s personal and social phenomenon and others were points discussed on the panel. Thereby, collaboration works are crucial to empower women in all aspects especially in educating girls. For that Matter, participation dealt with the gender sensitive issues warmly.

Debre Markos University gender affairs and HIV/AID prevention Directorate director Mrs Yewulsew Melak tries to wrap up as individuals at every corners should be able to do strong collaboration to combat /ban females segregations and mal-practices though bringing female leaders in to power giving special treatment, creative hospitable /conductions environment and relations openly.

The vice president for Research and community service at Debre Markos University Assistant professor Genet Degu on her closing speech remarks that gender and gender issues should not be left aside for a single group, but demands collaborative thinking in order to mainstream it in all tasks and work on empowering aggressively.
