DMU Develops New Student Information Management System

The registrar directorate of Debre Markos University implements the newly developed SIMS on 2010 entry students. In order to utilize the system the directorate organizes training sessions for academic staffs. The system makes the students’ information highly secured via maintaining supervision and control mechanisms at different levels.

The director of the registrar directorate Dr. Hunegnaw Dessie states that the newly developed Student Information Management System (SIMS) is vital to completely change traditional paper work student information recording system in to simple, computerized and highly secured system.

The training participants are teachers who have courses for first year students while the trainers are from Information Communication Technology Directorate. The acting director of ICT Mr. Gashaw Taye on his part states that as the system has crucial for students and teachers or the university as a whole in saving time, rescue threats and cost minimizing. According to Mr. Gashaw, in order to make the system software accessible by all teachers it has to consolidate the internet service besides the training.
