Efficient Teachers and Students Assure the Quality of Education

DMU: Debre Markos University establishes academic development directorate in 2010 so as to assure quality education measurably through short and medium term trainings.

Debre Markos University academic development directorate director Dr. Belachew Zerihun states that the directorate has established to meet the objectives of the University set through higher diploma program/HDP/ and English language improvement center/ELIC/. In doing that the trainers of HDP and ELIC were especially chosen on their underpinning ability and efficiency endorsing clear official criteria via six executive committees organized by academic vice president.

 Hence, eight trainers from Debre Markos University main campus and two from Bure campus have been recruited and selected accordingly. For this reason it was noted that six credit hours from the trainers and four credit hours from the trainees have been decreased from their regular period allocation to decrease their official load.

Higher Diploma coordinator Mr. Tamiru Nigussie states that this program is being given in the university for the trainees drawn from different colleges, institutions and schools of non-trained instructors rationally. It is being delivered continually for about two hours per day, for two days within a week and totally for 32 weeks of a year. It is about to be completed if and only if the trainees follow 80% and above of the total course of action tabled.

On the other hand, English Language Improvement Center/ELIC/ coordinator Mr, Asnake Teshager, utters this program is established to improve the students, teachers and administrative workers English language knowledge and skills in the university. Thus, the center is on the way of preparing manuals. The center plans to train 500 graduating students on macro-linguistic skills and 80 teachers on the topic of “Classroom English” in the completion of editing the manuals.

Thenceforth, the academic development directorate noted that though the Higher Diploma Program is being addressed moderately, the fulfillment of equipment: shelves, chairs, tables, and other stationeries would rather scale up the trainees zeal and ambition of attending the program.
